FC Barcelona secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Primera Federación side CD Guadalajara in the Round of 32 of the 2025/26 Copa del Rey, advancing to the round of 16.

Despite the apparent gulf in class, the Catalans had to work diligently to break down a resilient Guadalajara side, which managed to keep one of Spain’s strongest attacks at bay throughout the first half.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 76th minute when Danish defender Andreas Christensen rose to meet a precise cross and headed Barcelona ahead. The goal proved decisive as the Blaugranes held on to claim the win and continue their cup run.

Christensen was one of the standout performers of the match, combining defensive solidity with an important contribution in attack.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Dane also spoke to the media after the game. In this media talk, he opened up on how difficult it was to get the win in this game despite the apparent difference between the two teams:

“The key today was to stay patient. Sometimes it’s difficult to maintain quality, and we had to be patient and stay motivated. We had to approach every situation seriously. That was the most important thing for us, and I’m happy it ended well. We tried to control the game, but sometimes it’s very difficult. A cold night, the pitch… I’m happy with the victory and the team’s mindset today.”

The Danish defender also talked about his goal:

“I was a bit lucky that it went in, but it was an important moment. It was nice to have another game, and for me, being able to play and perform well with the team is good.”

Andreas Christensen has not been a clear starter for Hansi Flick of late, but with performances like these, he can go on to force his coach to give him a more important role in the team going forward.

The win will boost Barcelona’s confidence as they look ahead to the next round, while players like Christensen have shown they can make decisive contributions when called upon.
