Ange Postecoglou says he thinks Nottingham Forest are well placed for him to continue his track record of winning trophies.
Postecoglou has been appointed as the new Forest boss following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Australian returns to the Premier League just three months after being sacked by Tottenham, despite winning the Europa League trophy last season.
“Yeah, it wasn’t great,” Postecoglou said, reflecting on his departure from his former club.
“I knew it was coming so it wasn’t a surprise. I knew it was coming a fair way before.
“But we won it (the Europa League) and had the parade so it was a great three days but after that I kind of knew it was done.
“From my perspective, I had the chance to process that and whether I feel it was unjust, other people make those decisions and determinations, you’ll have to ask them their reasoning for it.
“What I do know is I had two years that were very, very challenging but I worked with some fantastic people in the football department.
“The supporters, we put them through some tough times but there isn’t a Spurs supporter I come across that doesn’t want to hug me and take me home for dinner so I must have done something right.
“I think, ultimately, that’s what we do it for. I’m very proud of what we achieved there and it will always take a special place in my heart but how it ended, I don’t really think about it a lot.
“To be fair, I’ve done it a couple of times myself. I left Celtic and I’m sure they were disappointed, I left Yokohama and they were disappointed so you understand that’s part of the business we’re in.
“But that’s okay. It’s allowed me now to move into this and maybe these things happen for a reason.”

Espirito Santo departed Forest amid tensions behind the scenes, with the Portuguese boss admitting publicly that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had worsened.
On the circumstances surrounding his appointment, Postecoglou said: “It’s the nature of football. You don’t really know what circumstances you’ll take over. Until Steve Cooper took over the club, they weren’t looking as though they were going to be in the Premier League. They’ve had two excellent managers who have done fantastic work.
“You certainly don’t know when these things come to an end. I certainly didn’t think I would finish up after winning a trophy.”
Now, Postecoglou is focused on adding more silverware to his record of achievements, with Forest set to kick off their Europa League campaign this month.
“I want to win trophies,” he said. “That’s what I’ve done my whole career and that’s what I want to try and do here.
“What I’ve seen over the last few years since the president took over the club is that those ambitions are backed up with actions. It’s perfect conditions.”
