Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes it is only “a question of time” before Brentford tactician, Thomas Frank makes a bigger switch away from the London club.

Brentford gave Manchester City their sternest test of the new season so far, taking the lead at the Etihad Stadium inside just 30 seconds courtesy of a Yoane Wissa header from close range, capitalising on a mistake at the back for the Premier League champions.

Erling Haaland would do what he does best however, regaining Manchester City’s lead via two strikes in quick succession inside the remainder of the first-half, before the hosts would see out the contest to continue their succession of games claiming all three points.

Pep Guardiola was left in awe of his managerial counterpart once again, speaking highly of a coach that has caused Manchester City so many problems since he secured promotion to the English top-flight with Brentford.

Speaking highly of the Brentford boss after City’s 2-1 win over the Bees on Saturday afternoon, Guardiola predicted that the Danish coach is only a “question of time” away from making a significant move in the game.

“It’s a question of time, he will get it,” Guardiola responded when asked whether he is surprised that a ‘bigger club’ within the European game has not already taken advantage of Frank’s abilities.

“They will get a good manager, and that is going to happen,” he continued. “I’m good in a few things, but reading when a manager is good, I know which one is good.”

A number of English top-flight clubs have been linked with interest in Thomas Frank, and particularly during the most recent off-season, with Liverpool the most notable club to be undergoing a managerial changeover following the exit of Jurgen Klopp.

The Anfield side ultimately settled upon Dutch boss Arne Slot, who has endured a strong start to life on Merseyside despite their shock 0-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at home. Manchester United have also toyed with the idea of approaching the Brentford coach.

Ultimately however, the Old Trafford club remained unmoved during the off-season and showed their faith in Erik ten Hag following his FA Cup success at the end of the last campaign, defeating Manchester City in the Wembley final.
