Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that it’s an honour to lead the team for the 100th time in the Barclays Women’s Super League this weekend.

The Red Devils travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in Skinner’s 100th league match in charge on Saturday lunchtime.

When speaking to the media ahead of the match, Skinner said that it’s an honour to lead the team for the 100th time, although there is certainly a sense of unfinished business.

“I’m privileged, it’s an honour to be Manchester United manager,” Skinner said. “To lead this team into a 100th WSL game means the world but what I’d say is I’m not done yet.

“If you’d have said to me would I have been manager of Manchester United for four-and-a-half years, you never know if you’ll get that long in football, we are in a different world now. To say that is an honour for me and my family. To lead a fantastic group of fans and a fantastic club [is an honour] but I’m not done yet, I’ve got much more that I want to achieve. I want to lead this club into creating even more history.”

Matches between Arsenal and Manchester United have often been tight in recent years and Skinner says that this weekend’s clash is about capitalising in the big moments.

He said “It’s always about who can take the big moments. Even the one last season where they got an advance on us, we came back into the game and it was 4-3. It ends up being a close game.

“There are a few factors [this weekend]. We are both coming back from the Christmas break and all teams will be at different stages but the reality is we’ve got to maximise what we can. We’ve got to play our game effectively but understand that both teams can create magic moments. We have to go into the game focused and give absolutely everything and with the quality we have, I’ve got no doubt that we have the quality to create chances.”

Manchester United are still chasing that big win against a title rival this season but Skinner expects his side to go to North London fresh and ready to win.

He said “It’s a big game for both teams, we are sitting next to each other in the table. The reality for us is that when we’ve played some teams, we’ve come off the back of a really heavy week, so hopefully, this time we have the physical readiness to be able to give our absolute all at the Emirates.

“We all know that you have to earn results in these games. We want to go to the Emirates and try and win, that’s the sole focus but we know how difficult that will be. We can’t forget that we are playing the European champions at home, so it’s a difficult task. We are looking forward to the challenge of it and I hope my team can show the best of themselves.”

Manchester United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Arsenal kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
