One star player is absolutely finished at Liverpool and he will be sold.

When the scythe falls on this appalling season at Anfield, Arne Slot is not going to be the only one feeling its sharp edge.

The head-coach is responsible for pretty much most of Liverpool's shortcomings. It's really hard to envisage a scenario where he will be in charge come next season.

But ultimately, some players are also obviously going to be moving on.

Liverpool largely have an exciting squad but it's a team that is imbalanced. There are certain players who are clearly no longer suited to the modern intensity of the Premier League, nor how Liverpool would want to play in an ideal world.

Ultimately, Richard Hughes, or potentially someone above him are going to have to make some difficult choices - choices that will see star players depart and others moving on.

Unfortunately, no matter how important a player has been to Liverpool, the club's recruitment has shown it can be ruthless.

When Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino showed even the slightest signs of regressing, the club was quick to press the trigger and let them go.

The same was true for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

There can be no sentiments in football. It's a cut-throat world that is constantly changing and if you slip up, there will be consequences.

Right now one player who has been an incredibly important one for Liverpool over the last couple of years is Alexis Mac Allister.

Unfortunately, though it seems like the demands of the Premier League have caught up with him.

Mac Allister now seems obviously to be on the chopping board come the summer window.

The Argentine World Cup and Premier League winner has looked a shadow of himself this season. Mac Allister has been so poor for most of the campaign and he's struggled to keep apace with most teams he comes up against.

Arguably his worst performance to date was the one against Tottenham on Sunday night.

Mac Allister won just two of his 12 duels and looked so vulnerable. Tottenham kept running through Liverpool's midfield, especially from the Argentine's side.

What was the most damning is that Trey Nyoni came on towards the dying embers of the game, and the teenager looked more suited and capable to handle the physical demands of Tottenham's midfield.

That performance was a damning one for Mac Allister, and with Liverpool having already agreed a contract for Ryan Gravenberch, and are in deep negotiations with a new deal with Dominik Szoboszlai, it feels like the Argentine is the one who is least wanted by Anfield officials.

The game against Tottenham just reaffirmed why that is, and it's becoming very obvious now that Mac Allister will be sold come the summer window.

He will likely be the first casualty of the post-Slot era.
