Jules Kounde has moved to end the growing speculation surrounding his future at Barcelona after reports suggested the club could consider selling him if a significant offer arrives this summer.

The French defender has been one of Barcelona’s most reliable performers in recent seasons, but recent rumours linking him with a possible departure have generated uncertainty about his long-term future at the club.

Speaking ahead of France’s upcoming friendly with Ivory Coast, Kounde was finally given the opportunity to address the situation directly.

What was said?

The defender made it clear that, despite the ongoing reports, his focus remains on Barcelona and that he has no intention of looking elsewhere.

During the pre-match press conference with the French national team, Kounde was asked about the possibility of leaving Barcelona despite recently extending his contract until 2030, to which he said,

“I have a contract until 2030. It’s pretty clear in my mind. With the French national team, those kinds of things take a back seat.

“I’m focused on the competition until further notice. I’m at Barça and I hope to stay there.”

The comments come at a time when Barcelona continue to assess their squad ahead of another important transfer window.

While the club is believed to be open to evaluating offers for several players, Kounde’s statement suggests that he sees his future remaining in Catalonia.

On the World Cup

The defender also discussed his return to international duty and the work being done within the French camp ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

“We’ve adapted very well to the training; it was important. We’ve all had different seasons, but now it’s time to start over on a solid foundation. We’ve run a lot. It’s gone well. We’re all excited.”

Lastly, he also addressed the question of whether France are one of the favourites to win the World Cup.

“I’ll leave that up to you (laughs). We don’t pay attention to that. We know we’re a quality team and that many consider us one of the favourites.

“We’re aware of the team we have and our ambition, but we have to approach the competition with humility. There are also a lot of good teams we’ll be facing.

“We’ll have to get off to a good start against the African champions. We’ll take it one step at a time,” he concluded.
