Lille president Olivier Létang was furious regarding some of the referee’s decisions during Lille’s Europa League loss to PAOK. Les Dogues were 3-0 down in the first half, and they eventually lost 4-3. Létang, who was handed a one-game ban in Ligue 1 yesterday for another officiating-related rant, went to meet Dutch referee Sander van der Eijk at half-time. The former PSG and Rennes executive was reportedly furious that Lille were not awarded a penalty after a contact between Jonjoe Kenny and Matias Fernandez-Pardo in PAOK’s penalty box.
Sander van der Eijk reviewed the play on one of the on-pitch monitors, but his decision didn’t go in Lille’s favour. A couple of seconds later, PAOK made it 3-0. Footage from Canal+ showed Létang confronting the Dutch referee with a cellphone in his hand. “I’ve already written to Mr. Ceferin (the UEFA President). What happened tonight is crazy. Where is the delegate?“
It remains to be seen whether UEFA will open disciplinary proceedings against Létang for confronting an official.
