Ivory Coast World Cup star ‘arrested over alleged match-fixing’
Ivory Coast footballer Elye Wahi, 23, was arrested by French police on 28 May on suspicion of match-fixing offences.
Wahi is the subject of an active investigation into whether he deliberately received a yellow card during a Ligue 1 match between Nice and Metz on 17 May.
A spokesperson for the Marseille public prosecutor's office confirmed his arrest on 29 May for alleged organised fraud, sports corruption, handling proceeds of crime, and money laundering.
He was released following police questioning, and investigations into the allegations are currently ongoing.
The forward started Ivory Coast’s 1-0 win against Ecuador on Sunday night.
