Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Nicolas Jackson on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The package could reach €80 million (£69 million), with an upfront fee of €15 million (£13 million) and a further €65 million (£56.2 million) if the move becomes permanent. A sell-on clause is also included in the deal.

Jackson has agreed personal terms on a contract with Bayern starting next summer and has been cleared to travel to Germany for his medical.

The 24-year-old striker was left out of Enzo Maresca’s squads against Crystal Palace and West Ham United while his future was being resolved.

Chelsea initially valued the forward at £80 million but were open to negotiations as interest grew.

Manchester United were among the clubs to enquire earlier in the summer but ruled out a move because of the cost. Several other Premier League and Champions League sides also considered him before Bayern advanced talks.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 for just over €35 million and signed a new deal last September that extended his stay until 2033.

He scored 17 goals in his debut season and finished last term with 13 goals and six assists as Chelsea lifted the Conference League and secured fourth place in the Premier League.

Despite that contribution, his form dipped in the second half of last season. A hamstring injury in February stalled his momentum, and he managed just one league goal in his final 15 appearances.

Two red cards for violent conduct, one against Newcastle United and another versus Flamengo in the Club World Cup, further dented his standing.

Chelsea have strengthened their attack with Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer, pushing Jackson down the pecking order.

Both new signings started ahead of him in the Club World Cup, increasing the Senegal international’s desire to move with the World Cup on the horizon next year.

For Bayern, the deal provides much-needed depth behind Harry Kane. The England captain remains their undisputed first-choice striker, but the club lacked a reliable alternative in case of injury.

A loan with an option to buy gives them flexibility while adding a forward who has scored 24 goals across two Premier League seasons.

If Jackson impresses, Bayern can secure him long term. For Chelsea, the move offers financial upside while clearing space in their attacking unit.
