The departure of Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa in the summer was not popular with the players at the Midlands club, according to the Telegraph.

The exit of the 24-year-old from the Villa Park club has created a sense of uncertainty in the dressing room, which is still being felt at the moment.

Ramsey joined Newcastle United in a £40 million deal, with Villa sacrificing one of their home-grown players to stay afloat the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

They were also open to cashing in on Morgan Rogers following interest from the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

However, none of them made an official offer after Villa made it clear they wanted at least £80 million for his services.

The likes of Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia, John McGinn and Emiliano Martinez were also linked with potential departures, but none of them left.

The Villans have started 2025-26 on a disappointing note, with no goals and victory after four Premier League games, while they have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

They return to action on Sunday with a trip to the Stadium of Light to take on newly-promoted Sunderland, and manager Unai Emery will be desperate to pick up all three points.

Villa kick off their Europa League campaign at home against Bologna a week from today, and a victory against the Serie A club will be a much-needed boost.

Emery has won the European competition four times having led teams to the finals five times, but he is unlikely to be confident of his chances with Villa following an underwhelming start to the season.

His key players are unsettled, leaving him frustrated, and turning things around on the pitch has to happen sooner rather than later.

Villa need to start scoring and winning games in the coming weeks, or Emery could find himself at risk of being sacked.
