The 31-year-old is now officially a member of the Red Dragons after signing a three-year deal.
Josh Windass has joined Wrexham after handing in his notice to Sheffield Wednesday.
Two months of non-payment led the Owls' top scorer from last season to hand in his notice of intent to leave the club, as he was allowed to do under FIFA rules. According to The Star, Windass was one of eight players to make such a move to try and get away from Wednesday. Only him and Michael Smith have been successful in doing so.
After his departure from Hillsborough was announced, the 31-year-old put out a heartfelt message thanking the club and its supporters for the five years that he spent there.
Now a new segment of his career has begun, and it has taken him to the Welsh side of England's more southern border.
The former Rangers player will represent Wrexham next season. He has signed a three-year deal with the club and expressed his delight at joining the Red Dragons on Instagram. "New chapter, me and my family are delighted to join this club. Let’s go," said Windass.
After completing his fifth signing of the summer, the club's manager, Phil Parkinson, said: "I’m delighted to welcome Josh to the club. He’s a player with a lot of Championship experience and I’m looking forward to working with him over the coming seasons."
In the comments of Windass' post on social media, there were plenty of former teammates and friends congratulating him on his move. One of them, Michael Conlan, an Olympic bronze medalist in boxing, is a mutual friend of Wrexham's latest addition and one of their longer-serving players, James McClean.
The club's Northern Irish skipper has been with Wrexham for two seasons now and has become a mainstay in Parkinson's side. Conlan congratulated the 31-year-old on his link-up with the Welsh side and McClean.
"Lethal mate congrats," said the Olympian. "@macajw give him a lovely Irish welcome." McClean responded in jest with "@mickconlan11 always bud."
Windass massively increases Wrexham's chances of having a successful first season in the second tier. He's a consistent scoring threat at the level, something that only one of their other summer signings, Ryan Hardie, could definitely offer.
If the Welsh side can get goals from them two and remain as defensively solid as they were last season, they'll quickly squash any doubts about them struggling in the Championship.
