James Milner could make an emotional return to Anfield, wearing Diogo Jota’s squad number.

He has taken Albion’s No.20 this season in tribute to a former colleague who died last summer in a car crash. According to TheArgus.co.uk, head coach Fabian Hurzeler says Milner is fit and ready to rejoin the matchday squad.

The veteran last featured in Albion’s late push for a point at Old Trafford seven weeks ago.

Hurzeler believes the former Liverpool player’s know-how could help, stressing the value of winners who guide younger players. He said actions matter more than words and that Milner’s daily standards set the tone.

Milner was close to Jota on and off the pitch. Speaking in Marbella soon after the tragedy, he praised Jota’s finishing and movement and said he relished training alongside him, while valuing him even more as a person admired across the dressing room.

He also reflected on their shared stubborn streak and the fun they had together. Milner described Jota as a devoted family man who would be missed by everyone.
