At a Madrid briefing on Wednesday, LaLiga president Javier Tebas defended Peter Lim’s stewardship of Valencia, highlighting a long-term plan anchored by the Nou Mestalla, according to Superdeporte.
Tebas said he remains in contact with Lim and believes the new stadium could unlock revenue the club do not currently have. He suggested there is meaningful medium and long-term growth tied to the ground.
On the sporting side he declined to opine, stressing it is not his remit. His focus, he added, is the stadium build and ensuring the club’s financial solvency. He said Valencia will have a five-star, top-level venue that few expected them to secure.
He also noted that with six more points Valencia would be close to the Europa League places, pointing out how tight that area of the table is.
Assessing a potential relegation, Tebas argued it would not be an economic catastrophe. He said the club’s many years in the top flight would bring substantial support and was sure Valencia had planned for such a scenario.
LaLiga’s corporate managing director Javier Gómez added that Valencia’s wage limit rose in winter compared with summer, due either to higher income or reduced costs. He said new revenues emerged between September and the winter window, some before the summer, and the club used them alongside other adjustments.
