Andrée Jeglertz praised City’s ability to win in different ways after we recorded a hard-fought 2-1 triumph at Everton.

Goals from Vivianne Miedema and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw either side of Kelly Gago’s equaliser helped us to three precious points at Goodison Park.

The victory was our seventh top-flight success in succession and moved us to the Barclays Women’s Super League summit after eight top-flight matches.

For the Blues’ head coach, our position at the top of the table provides satisfaction and evidence of our improvement under his stewardship.

But he says he was also delighted to see the grit in our performance on Merseyside as we battled valiantly for victory.

“Of course [moving to the top of the league] it’s nice and shows we are doing at least something right,” he declared.

“That gives you a great feeling that we are doing [well] and gives the team confidence that we’re pretty good and we can win in different ways.

“It’s also an important part for the team to understand we don’t need to have the ball in 70 percent of the game. With that said, that we can also protect our goal, and keep it free from great chances.

“And that is so important for us.”

Rebecca Knaak and Lauren Hemp both made their returns from injury in the success over Everton.

German defender Knaak started at Goodison Park and played just over an hour in what were her first minutes of the season after recovering from an issue picked up at the 2025 Euros.

Hemp hadn’t featured since our win over Spurs in September but was introduced as a second-half substitute against the Toffees.

And Jeglertz says it’s important to have key figures back for selection.

He added: “It was important [to have them back]. We have a squad with a lot of good players and now Alex [Greenwood] is out we needed to get Rebecca into the game.

“She did very well coming in and for Lauren also, coming back is of course fantastic for us and it gives us one extra dimension.”
