The Danish manager has guided the Steelmen to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership, earning points against each of the top three this season. Motherwell have also attracted praise for their performances, particularly for an attacking and inventive style of play that has stood out during the campaign.

Key players including Tawanda Maswanhise, Elijah Just and Elliott Watt have impressed, while Askou’s leadership has been widely viewed as a positive influence on the club and Scottish football on a whole.

With interim boss Martin O’Neill expected to leave at the end of the season, there has been growing discussion around potential successors, with Askou frequently mentioned as a leading candidate.

However, the Motherwell manager has played down the speculation, stating his focus remains firmly on his current role and the team’s objectives for the remainder of the season and beyond, rather than external interest from Celtic or any other club.

Speaking via Scottish Sun, Askou said: “We have good conversations about everything. Look, we plan for the future. We have to. We also plan for Tawanda Maswanhise’s future.

“Last year we also planned for Lennon Miller’s future. That’s what we do. We plan for the under-15s to get the opportunity to break through to the first team. So of course I am relaxed about everything else. Everything we do is with a long perspective. We’re also planning stuff that is not official yet. Important things concerning infrastructure.”

Motherwell travel to Tynecastle this weekend to face Hearts. The Jambos have failed to beat Askou’s men this season.
