Manchester United have added a surprise name to their list of left-winger targets.
United have been strongly linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Everton talisman Iliman Ndiaye, as the club’s recruitment team ramp up their search for an attacker capable of stretching defences.
However, United would have to dig deep into their pockets to prise either from their respective clubs. Amid this, a cheaper, but equally exciting, alternative has emerged on the club’s radar.
According to SportsBoom, Manchester United are monitoring Norwegian livewire Jens Petter Hauge.
The Bodø/Glimt star has been one of the most threatening wingers of this season’s Champions League, scoring six times and assisting twice in 12 appearances.
The six-foot-one-inch-tall Norwegian was a nightmare to defend due to his “fearless flair and ruthless finishing.”
These performances have reportedly piqued the interest of Europe’s elites.
It is suggested United, Manchester City and Arsenal are all considering signing Hauge in the summer.
The 26-year-old is in his second stint at Bodø/Glimt, having first left the Norwegian club for AC Milan in 2020. However, he struggled to find his feet in Italy and then in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt.
It is claimed Hauge is “desperate to make the next step” once again, and the Premier League is his dream, as the chance to test himself weekly against the world’s best has him “itching for a move”.
Hauge has more than two and a half years left to run on his contract at Bodø/Glimt, who are believed to be willing to cash in if the price is right, with a fee in the region of £30-40million now being touted.
United’s priority is to revamp their midfield during the summer transfer window. As such, taking a chance on a reasonably priced winger like Hauge, who has shown his quality in the Champions League, could prove to be a shrewd move from INEOS.
