According to L'Équipe, Rennes have struck a deal for Jérémy Jacquet to join Liverpool in the summer for about €70m, while the defender remains with the French club for now.

The English champions sealed the agreement over the weekend and it was finalised on Monday evening. The 20-year-old's fee places him among the most expensive French-trained exports, behind Aurélien Tchouaméni to Real Madrid at €80m, Nicolas Pépé to Arsenal at €80m and Thomas Lemar to Atlético Madrid at €72m.

Jacquet underwent a medical in England on Monday afternoon as Rennes head coach Habib Beye faced the media. Beye has been reluctant to consider a winter exit, and said keeping the player until Ligue 1 matchday 34 while securing the club’s desired fee at a team that matches the player’s wishes might be the best outcome available.

Bondy-born Jacquet has a few months to prepare for the step up. His rise accelerated after the 2025 winter window, when Rennes recalled him from a loan at Clermont in Ligue 2, and under Beye’s development-focused project he has become a defensive pillar with height, speed, distribution and strength in duels.

Rennes now visit Marseille in the Coupe de France round of 16 on Tuesday at 21:10, and it is not certain Jacquet will start because he was in Liverpool and did not train on Monday.
