Jacquet has agreed personal terms withLiverpool and will now complete medical tests before finalising the transfer. The Frenchman's move to Merseyside will happen in the 2026 summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool have beaten competition from Chelsea and Bayern Munich to Jacquet, who has emerged as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Europe at Rennes.

He is the latest exciting talent to progress with theLigue 1 outfit, who have developed talents including Ousmane Dembele, Eduardo Camavinga and Raphinha over the last decade.

The 20-year-old, who has represented France up to u-21 level, ranks in the top six percent of centre-backs inLigue 1 for aerial duel success rate this season.

His arrival atLiverpool will be a welcome boost for the Reds in the summer, amid doubts over several of Arne Slot's current options.

Virgil van Dijk will turn 35 in July, while Ibrahima Konate's contract is due to expire in the summer with no agreement on an extension reached to date. Joe Gomez's future is also unclear amid interest in the long-serving defender from AC Milan.

Liverpool also have Giovanni Leoni as a centre-back option but the Italian's debut season has been decimated by an ACL injury. Leoni picked up the knee injury on his Liverpool debut and is not expected to feature again this season.

Liverpool had been interested in signing Lutsharel Geertruida before Monday's transfer deadline. However, a deal for the defender looks unlikely, with complications over an agreement. The Netherlands international is currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig.
