PA reports that Jermain Defoe has been appointed Woking manager, with Paul Bracewell named assistant.
Defoe, recently linked with a possible return to Tottenham, said: “Woking is a historic club with huge potential, and I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting project. I can’t wait to get started.”
He has coached in Tottenham’s academy and briefly worked as part of a four-man caretaker team at Rangers in 2021.
Woking chairman Todd Johnson said Defoe’s playing pedigree is clear, but that his vision, standards, leadership and approach to player development particularly impressed the board. He added the club has a clear plan and believes Defoe can build on strong foundations and lead the next phase.
Defoe will be joined by Paul Bracewell, while interim bosses Craig Ross and Jake Hyde remain on the backroom staff alongside Dale Gorman.
Ross and Hyde will take charge of Tuesday’s home league game against Altrincham.
As a player, Defoe also had spells at West Ham, Portsmouth and Sunderland, and scored 20 goals in 57 senior appearances for England.
