Leeds United have confirmed their entry into the Red Bull Soapbox Race at Alexandra Palace, London, on June 20, with Jermaine Beckford and Stuart Dallas set to steer a giant peacock. The duo made 418 Leeds appearances between them across all competitions.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the club will be one of six Premier League entrants, alongside Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle United.
Leeds’ soapbox is a peacock-themed build featuring current and retro crests. Its wheels carry the peacock badge used between 1980 and 1984, which then-chairman Leslie Silver deemed unlucky as it coincided with relegation.
Red Bull have held a minority stake in Leeds since the end of the 2023/24 season, when Daniel Farke’s side lost the Championship play-off final to Southampton. The company also became front-of-shirt sponsor in a record commercial deal for the second tier.
They remained on the front of Leeds shirts during last season’s 14th-place Premier League finish and will do so again in 2026/27. Fans have been reassured there are no plans to change the badge, name or stadium.
The Soapbox Race began in Belgium in 2000 and has grown into a global event. Teams build homemade vehicles to tackle a downhill course of tight turns, obstacles and jumps that can produce comic crashes. Beckford and Dallas will be hoping for a smooth run.
