Jesper Lindstrøm’s proposed loan from Napoli to Schalke 04 has been thrown into doubt after late complications, Bild claims.

The clubs were thought to have an agreement and the Danish winger reportedly completed a medical over the weekend. Talks have since faltered over key terms.

The sticking point is the structure of the deal. Schalke want an option to buy and Napoli insist on a mandatory purchase clause, which the Bundesliga club are unwilling to accept.

There is said to be frustration on Schalke’s side after verbal commitments were not honoured and earlier assurances were withdrawn, the report said.

If no agreement is found, the move will fall through and Lindstrøm will return to Italy.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Facundo Buonanotte has been mentioned as a possible alternative.
