Jesse Lingard says he wants Memphis to remain at Corinthians and praised the Dutch forward’s impact.

According to Meu Timao, Memphis’s contract runs until 20 June 2026 and no extension has been agreed. The club have explored deals with companies to fund a renewal by covering 100% of his wages through commercial partnerships.

Speaking after Thursday’s draw with Uruguayan side Peñarol, Lingard said Corinthians need their best players and that Memphis is working to return to training. He called the striker a friend and acknowledged he does not know the internal situation.

Lingard was announced on 11 March 2026 after FC Seoul, then waited 15 days for registration because of CPF and work visa processes. Memphis sustained a right thigh injury in the 22 May draw with Flamengo. The pair previously overlapped at Manchester United in 2015/16.

Supporters have campaigned on social media for a renewal. The no. 10 wants to stay and has accepted a pay cut, but the club faces fresh hurdles as main sponsor Esportes da Sorte is not expected to help finance a new deal and is not planning to cover his salary.

The board prioritised a partner-led model to complete the renewal and the company initially signalled it could collaborate, as during Memphis’s arrival in September 2024. Talks, however, have not advanced.
