Jesse Lingard handed first Corinthians start in 1-0 defeat to Internacional | OneFootball

Corinthians were beaten 1-0 by Internacional at Neo Química Arena in the Campeonato Brasileiro, as Jesse Lingard made his first start under Dorival Júnior.

According to Meu Timao, the English attacking midfielder was announced on 6 March and had debuted in the 3-1 loss to Fluminense, coming on at half-time for Breno Bidon after a period of physical readjustment. He had not played since late 2025 after leaving Seoul FC in South Korea.

On Sunday he started alongside Yuri Alberto and featured for 72 minutes before being replaced by Vitinho. He completed 14 of 17 passes, an 82 per cent success rate, and contributed defensively with two tackles.

The defeat left Corinthians without a win in nine matches, a run last seen in 2007 when the club were relegated to Serie B. Dorival Júnior was dismissed as head coach immediately after the final whistle.

Corinthians now turn to Thursday’s Libertadores opener against Platense. Under-20 coach William Batista will oversee preparations until then.
