Palmeiras have announced the signing of Jhon Arias, and Benfica regular Richard Ríos has posted a warm welcome to his compatriot.
On social media, via a video, the Benfica number 20, who is recovering from injury, wished Arias and his family happiness and success at the São Paulo club. According to Glorioso 1904, he said Arias would be joining a close, family-minded group at Abel Ferreira’s club, and he offered help if needed.
Ríos added that he hoped Arias would be as happy there as he had been during his own time at Palmeiras, signing off with a big hug.
Arias returns to Brazil after half a season with Wolves. He had struggled to adapt in England and the Premier League, and Palmeiras have paid €25m for his transfer.
This season Ríos, valued at €22m, has played 32 times for Benfica, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Liga dos Campeões, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,622 minutes he has scored three goals and supplied two assists.
