Presented on Friday, Jhon Arias took part in his first Palmeiras training session on Saturday afternoon. He worked briefly with the squad, then continued separately with the fitness staff.

According to Globo.com, the former Wolverhampton player is registered for the Campeonato Paulista and cleared for the Brasileirão. Despite having been playing in England, the number 11 is not expected to be named for Sunday’s game against Guarani due to limited preparation at the Academia de Futebol.

Arias is expected to have the week to prepare and could make his debut next weekend in the Paulistão quarter-finals. Palmeiras are already through and await confirmation of date and opponent after Sunday’s final round of the group stage.

Paulinho will also miss Guarani but is edging closer to a return. The number 10 laced up and worked on the grass, again away from the main group.

Out since July after a second surgery on his right leg, the forward has responded well to treatment. A round of tests has cleared him to increase workload both on the pitch and inside the Academia de Futebol.

The expectation is that he begins the transition from physical to technical work later this month.
