Bologna chief executive Claudio Fenucci has addressed Jhon Lucumí’s future after the club blocked a late exit last summer.
“A year ago, we couldn’t sell him at the end of the transfer window, but we promised him that this year, given a suitable offer, we’d make it happen.” He was speaking to Pallone nel 7.
“The transfer window hasn’t really taken off yet, and if it didn’t for Lucumi either, we’d be happy to keep him.”
Sunderland were keen to sign the Colombia defender in the previous summer window to strengthen Régis Le Bris’ squad, but Bologna refused a late exit as there was not enough time to replace him.
The stance suggests a move is possible in this window, although any bidder must meet Bologna’s valuation. Lucumí remains under contract and is valued within the squad, so the club are not under pressure to sell.
Sunderland continue to assess defensive options, particularly left-sided and left-footed profiles, with Premier League, domestic cup and European commitments heightening the need for depth.
