Former Leeds United striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink has set out four positions for summer reinforcements, while club captain Ethan Ampadu has signed through 2030. Daniel Farke’s side finished 14th last season.

“Yeah, they did exceptionally well. I think they need more quality in depth,” Hasselbaink said. “Dominic Calvert-Lewin did magnificently well upfront, but I think they need right and left wingers who can really deliver,” he told 10bet.

“Maybe a little bit more power in midfield, too. And a goalkeeper - the goalkeeper they took from France [Lucas Perri] didn’t really work out. Karl Darlow took over and did exceptionally well, but I think they need to strengthen permanently in that area.”

Leeds also want a right-wing or No.10 option after missing out on Harry Wilson last summer. Paraag Marathe has said additions will be fewer but of higher quality, after 10 first-team signings last year.

Leeds have confirmed Ampadu’s new four-year contract, running to 2030. His previous deal was to 2027 with a 12-month option, and he was voted Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year last month.

“Yeah, well, he's the captain,” Hasselbaink added. “Very important, very good. He's a proper leader. He can play centre-half, he can play in midfield.”

Talks are under way with Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram over extensions, with all three out of contract this summer, while Illan Meslier will depart. The window opens on Monday, June 15, with most business expected after the 2026 World Cup ends in mid-July.
