The sentiment of happiness and euphoria that came in when FC Barcelona were crowned as the champions of Spain last Sunday was subdued to some extent on Saturday, when Robert Lewandowski announced his decision to depart from the Blaugrana club at the end of this season.

While this decision was expected, it still would have left the fans sad, as the Pole has been one of the most notable names on their team in the post-Lionel Messi era. There is no denying that the veteran forward has contributed quite a lot as his team won 3 of the 4 La Liga titles during his time at the club.

Following his announcement, several voices from the club have shown their gratitude to Lewandowski. Among them, the most prominent has been that of the president-elect Joan Laporta, who published a heartfelt farewell message to the striker on his Instagram account, which has been reported by Mundo Deportivo and which ran as follows:

Meanwhile, Joan Laporta also kept the door open for the Pole for a future role, and it remains to be seen whether the striker would return to the Catalan club in some capacity in the years to come.
