According to A Bola, the Portuguese FA’s disciplinary council has combined complaints from João Diogo Manteigas and Frederico Varandas against Porto president André Villas-Boas. Manteigas’s filing has been attached to an existing case opened after Sporting’s complaint.

Both submissions focus on remarks by Villas-Boas that, in the view of Manteigas and Varandas, were damaging to honour. Manteigas is a sports law lawyer and a former Benfica presidential candidate.

The council has joined the matters because they address the same issue, a step intended to speed up progress and conclusion of the case concerning Porto’s leader. Benfica have remained on the sidelines of the dispute between the two rivals.

On nine April, the council’s professional section opened disciplinary proceedings following Sporting’s complaint. On 10 April, Manteigas lodged his own document targeting the Porto president.

In Dragões magazine, Villas-Boas wrote passages suggesting a Portuguese sports association, described as known for hiring priests to conduct religious masses at sporting events, had asked the disciplinary council to punish Porto for revealing details of those practices. That wording was among the reasons cited by Manteigas in his submission.
