João Rego impressed at the Toulon Tournament, which Portugal won. The 20-year-old Benfica attacking midfielder was among the standouts, finishing as top scorer with five goals and being named player of the tournament.

Operating centrally as a number 10, his preferred role, he strengthened his case for greater involvement next season. According to Glorioso 1904, his performances in France have already drawn interest from several clubs.

Even so, Rego’s priority is to join Benfica’s pre-season and try to convince Marco Silva to back him in 2026/27.

In the winter window he came close to moves to Famalicão and PAOK, but stayed at the Estádio da Luz. Soon after, he signed a new deal to 2030, protected by a 100 million euros release clause.

While he aims to earn minutes in the first team, he is not ruling out a temporary exit this summer. If game time looks harder to secure in Lisbon, a loan is on the table to aid his development.
