Henk ten Cate has offered a blunt reality check for Joel Piroe, saying sparse minutes are part of life in the Premier League. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Suriname boss stressed the forward must make the most of any opening at Leeds, with Daniel Farke not starting him in the league since August 2025.

Piroe has 13 Premier League appearances this season but only two starts, against Everton and Arsenal in Leeds’ opening fixtures. He has not begun a league match since, and his only goal came in the FA Cup at Norwich.

He has received his first senior Suriname call-up, qualifying through his father. Suriname face Bolivia in a World Cup play-off, with a win setting up a next-round meeting with Iraq.

Ten Cate said Piroe’s situation is not unusual at this level, describing the English top flight as the strongest in the world and noting players can end up on the bench.

He added that he has told Piroe to work extremely hard and to seize any chance, referencing the striker’s display at Norwich. For now his focus is Bolivia, while at Leeds he can only control his impact when minutes arrive.
