According to Diario Vasco, Real Sociedad’s third day of pre-season brought a return to closed-door training, the pattern for the campaign. The main development saw Jon Martín and Turrientes rejoin full group work during a scorching Monday session at the José Luis Orbegozo pitch.
Both had trained with Spain’s squad before its trip to North America, while Sergio Gómez came back a day early from holiday and featured in Sunday’s open session.
Jon Gorrotxategi and Jon Pacheco have not yet integrated with the group, though they are expected to do so in the coming days. The Eibar pivot is still troubled by pubis issues that hampered him late last season, and the Baztan centre-back is recovering from an ankle injury.
Balda, and particularly Odriozola, will have to wait longer.
Kazunari Kita is scheduled to report to Rino Matarazzo on Wednesday, having extended his stay in Japan for a personal matter. On Thursday, non-World Cup internationals Jon Mikel Aramburu, Yangel Herrera and Orri Óskarsson are due to join.
There was a special visitor in Zubieta as Chory Castro watched training from the stands alongside director of football Erik Bretos. The Uruguayan winger made 112 appearances for Real Sociedad between 2012 and 2016, scoring 12 and providing 17 assists. He played in the Champions League as a txuri-urdin and formed a potent left-footed trio with Vela and Griezmann.
