At 19, Jon Martín has cemented himself as a linchpin of Real Sociedad’s defence, turning what was meant to be a season of learning into a starting role alongside Zubeldia or Caleta-Car. Under Pellegrino Matarazzo he is a fixture at the back, and his form has made him a Spain under-21 regular with senior murmurs growing.

His emergence has big clubs monitoring him, with Real Madrid among those tracking the centre-back. He renewed in October until 2031, and has a €50 million release clause.

At youth level he partnered Pau Cubarsí as Spain won the 2024 under-19 European Championship. While the Barcelona defender has already made the senior step, Martín continues to progress methodically.

On the pitch he plays with uncommon poise for his age, rarely troubled by an opponent’s name or experience in individual duels. Within the club his continuity is seen as strategic, and figures such as Górriz consider he has arrived to stay.

'Win titles,' he said, speaking to Cope last week. For the moment his future remains linked to Matarazzo’s project in Donostia, even as his name features on other clubs’ reports before the summer window.
