Leicester City have been dealt a major setback, with Jordan James out for more than four weeks after a hamstring injury suffered in the first half of the 1-1 draw at Wrexham on Tuesday. The Wales midfielder, City’s top scorer, is sidelined alongside Oliver Skipp, who will also miss Saturday’s meeting with Oxford.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Marti Cifuentes said neither player will be available for the next game. He explained James faces weeks out with a serious issue, potentially slightly more than three to four weeks, and may not return until March.
Skipp sustained a head injury in the second half at the Racecourse Ground and will not be ready. Cifuentes admitted losing two midfielders affected the second-half display and called the situation far from optimal. He praised James’ goals, energy and desire, describing his absence as an important loss.
With Aaron Ramsey also sidelined by a hamstring problem and Harry Winks not under consideration, City have four senior options for three midfield roles, Hamza Choudhury, Boubakary Soumare, Louis Page and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
In total, City will be without six players against Oxford, with Harry Souttar and Victor Kristiansen, with a knee problem, also out. Cifuentes said Souttar’s setback relates to his knee rather than his Achilles after minor surgery earlier this month. He said it will take weeks, then further time to build fitness before competing.
