Jose Mourinho is to take over at Real Madrid and his initial dealings could send a star to Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho should soon be announced as the new head coach at Real Madrid. That's certainly the line from all reputable outlets - the big return is happening.
And so their summer transfer plans now involve Mourinho, who is busy picking out the kind of squad he needs. Cope reports that he wants a new defensive midfielder, for instance, and specifically Morten Hjulmand.
Hjulmand, who is at Sporting CP, has been linked with clubs all over Europe. It seems Real Madrid may push to sign him this summer, however.
And that will set off alarm bells at Anfield. Liverpool may not have a strong interest in Hjulmand but they are long-term admirers of two midfielders at Real Madrid.
Both Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have been heavily linked in the past. Tchouameni has openly talked about nearly joining the Reds back in 2022 in an interview with Le Parisien.
Well, the door opens here. Tchouameni could reportedly leave Real Madrid this summer, with the Telegraph claiming Manchester United are interested in him.
Liverpool have a chance to get involved here, too. They need a new defensive midfielder to solidify their midfield and Tchouameni will certainly be available if Mourinho gets his way and signs Hjulmand.

Real Madrid Performance and Bust-Up
As of 20 May 2026, Aurélien Tchouaméni is enduring a turbulent period at Real Madrid. The 26-year-old midfielder has made 49 appearances this season, but Barcelona's recent back-to-back La Liga title win has heightened club tensions. Tensions boiled over in early May when Tchouaméni was involved in a physical training-ground altercation with teammate Federico Valverde, an incident downplayed by President Florentino Pérez but heavily leaked to the media.
Transfer Speculation
The internal friction has alerted long-term admirers Manchester United, who have designated Tchouaméni a "dream target" to replace Casemiro. Despite reports that United are ready to test his status with a massive summer bid, Real Madrid reportedly consider him untouchable, as he is the squad's only natural defensive midfielder.
