José Mourinho is understood to have informed Benfica president Rui Costa that he wants greater influence over transfers for 2026/27, according to Glorioso 1904.
He is seeking a more central role in recruitment, with the power to select players who best fit the profile for each position. He also wants a say on whether to proceed with targets flagged by the club.
The coach has repeatedly hinted the squad is not tailored to his ideas, pointing to gaps he believes remain.
In the winter window he requested another centre-forward and wide players, where Schjelderup stood out, but the club did not grant those wishes.
With the possibility that Benfica do not secure a Champions League place next season, recruitment policy could be affected. Mourinho therefore wants a firmer hand as plans for 2026/27 take shape.
