José Mourinho is heading to Seixal to settle his Benfica future, days after the win over Estoril.
Record writes that Mourinho has a preliminary agreement with Real Madrid, a two year contract with an additional one year option, and will visit Benfica Campus today to tell president Rui Costa he will not coach the team in 2026/27. The report adds it is only a matter of time before he is confirmed in Madrid.
It would mark a reversal two days after he said he was 99% likely to continue at the Estádio da Luz.
On Sunday, 17 May, Rui Costa said Mourinho remained Benfica’s coach unless proved otherwise, that the decision on the renewal offer was his, and that he would address supporters this week to review the season. He also ruled out any contact with Marco Silva.
With his departure scenario described as near final, Benfica must now seek a new head coach, with Marco Silva the leading name. The club will have to wait for his meeting with Fulham, where he has an offer to renew.
