Ahead of the Porto clássico in the Portuguese Cup, José Mourinho is said to be increasingly uneasy about Benfica’s current spell and the pace of their winter business.
Correio da Manhã reports that Mourinho had long told the Benfica board that reinforcements were needed in January, yet only Sidney Cabral, a Cape Verdean left-back, has arrived to bolster the defence.
That signing has not fully met his wishes and he is described as growing impatient for further additions to tackle the second half of the season.
Benfica are currently negotiating several targets, including André Luiz of Rio Ave and Wesley of Al Nassr. More recently, there have been suggestions of a fresh approach for Thiago Almada, while efforts continue to finalise Lorenzo Lucca from Napoli.
The club are navigating a turbulent phase and have struggled to produce consistent answers on the pitch. The upcoming tie against Porto in the Portuguese Cup could prove make or break for Mourinho.
