Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has opened up on the brief tumultuous spell he had in charge of Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The Spanish mentor left the Buccaneers in late May to step into the Red Devils' hot seat in a bid to swiftly begin preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

However, he was axed after just three months and three league games, leaving Ahly in 12th place on the Egyptian Premier League standings. Overall, he won just one of the seven matches he oversaw.

Reflecting on his time in Cairo, the 50-year-old tactician says it was an intense experience but one in which he learnt a lot from, having participated in the global club showpiece, among other things.

“Intense, very intense, learning a lot and having the opportunity to experience top competitions like the Club World Cup, having the chance to work with really good players again one more time in a different space, in a different side of the world, in a different culture,” said Riveiro.

"And [there were] different things to learn from my side - the personal and professional side as well. One more experience in my career, short but intense.

Currently unattached, Riveiro confirmed that multiple offers have landed on his table due to his success with Pirates and managing Ahly but stressed the importance of picking the right project.

“Yes of course [I have had offers]. Luckily, like I said many times, I had the opportunity to be part of a successful team, a successful project not long time ago, moving to a place like Ahly and lucky enough the offers to continue our careers are still there,” he added.

"It's just about to find the right proposal at the right time to continue somewhere else.

Riveiro, who guided Pirates to five domestic cup titles during his tenure, is back in South Africa as an ambassador for the Carling Black Label Cup, scheduled for 13 December at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
