Jose Sa earns surprise nomination amid expected Wolves summer exit | OneFootball

Jose Sa has been nominated for the Premier League goalkeeper performance of the season, a rare nod for a player from a relegated side.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Wolves were relegated last month after an eight-year stay in the Premier League. Sa looks set to depart after 170 starts in five years since joining from Olympiakos.

His nominated display came in a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, where the hosts had 35 efforts. Sa made ten saves, including a goal-line stop to deny Morato.

He is on a shortlist decided by a public vote combined with an expert panel, with a winner due next week. Rivals include Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs, Burnley’s Martin Dubravka, Tottenham’s Vicario and Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez.

It has been a demanding season for Sa and Wolves, who spent the campaign in the bottom three. It is widely accepted he will leave this summer, after January links to Forest and reports of interest from Besiktas. He remains under contract until next summer.

Sa said he would miss people at the club after five years and that playing while knowing relegation was coming was difficult. He added that he always had to give his maximum to finish well and to think about the World Cup and next season for strength. The Portugal international is now set to travel as a back-up in Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad.
