Josh Maja is set to complete a free transfer to Le Havre, returning to France’s top flight. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the former Albion striker is poised to join the Normandy club.

The 27-year-old spent three seasons at The Hawthorns and departed this summer after rejecting a new contract.

Maja arrived in 2023 on a free after Bordeaux, endured mixed fortunes, yet finished as Albion’s 12-goal top scorer in his second season despite missing the entire second half through injury.

Fitness issues marred his debut campaign in 2023/24 and persisted into the final year, though he scored important goals for head coach James Morrison during the spring survival push.

He struck three times in his final nine appearances last season, netting against Wrexham, Watford and Preston to deliver seven points.

Morrison wanted to keep him and Albion tabled a new offer in May, but it later became clear the Nigerian would move on.

Albion were also keen to retain Karlan Grant, who instead chose a return to Championship rivals Charlton.

Maja, previously of Fulham and Sunderland, now looks set for Ligue 1 with Le Havre, who finished 14th last season under former Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard. He earlier represented Bordeaux in Ligue 2 and scored 19 goals in 81 games for Albion.
