The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney has declared that the Chelsea hierarchy are responsible for turning club into a financial experiment.
All the focus has been around head coach Liam Rosenior and whether he should be sacked or not right now, and of course he does need to be sacked, he’s well out of his depth.

But the issues at Chelsea are rooted problems. And those problems all come from the very top of the club – the owners. They’re the ones who have put this bizarre project in place, they are the ones who have spent £2bn on the squad in four years, they are the ones who have hired the lame sporting directors, and they are the ones who keep hiring managers who are proving not to be good enough.

Writing in The Independent last night, Delaney said:
“The focus should stay on the Chelsea hierarchy. They are responsible for this. They are responsible for turning a social institution into some kind of financial experiment.
“They’ve made the common mistake of thinking they are smarter than the norms of a 166-year-old sport and have been shown reality.”
Gary Cahill tried his best to be positive about Chelsea’s performance against Brighton, but even he found today’s game a “hard watch” and says there were “no positives”.
Chelsea’s loss at Brighton means they’ve lost fives league games without scoring for the first time since 1912. So they have now broken one of the oldest records in history.
