Liverpool are preparing for another significant summer as recruitment plans gather pace behind the scenes. Despite heavy spending in recent windows under sporting director Richard Hughes, the Premier League champions continue to monitor attacking options, with Morgan Rogers emerging as a serious target.
Arne Slot guided Liverpool to the title in 2024-25 and the club remain ambitious in the market. Questions surrounding the long term futures of key forwards have prompted fresh analysis, and sources suggest the Reds are assessing versatile attackers capable of fitting multiple roles within the current system.
Liverpool’s forward line could undergo further evolution ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. High profile arrivals such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak strengthened the squad previously, yet recruitment staff believe additional depth and flexibility may still be required.
Morgan Rogers has become a prominent name within discussions. The Aston Villa playmaker offers tactical adaptability, able to operate centrally, wide on the left, or through the middle when needed. That versatility is viewed internally as a major advantage as Slot looks to maintain competition across attacking positions.
Recent performances have enhanced Rogers’ reputation across the Premier League. Liverpool’s interest has been described as concrete, placing them among several clubs tracking his development closely.

Aston Villa remain determined to build around Rogers, particularly after extending his contract until 2031. The new agreement strengthened Villa’s negotiating position and raised expectations that any transfer fee would exceed £100m.
Rogers has contributed eight goals and five assists in the league this season, numbers that underline his growing influence in Unai Emery’s system. Operating primarily as an attacking midfielder, he has also filled wider roles when required, highlighting the flexibility that has caught Liverpool’s attention.
Villa continue to push for Champions League qualification, yet financial pressures could shape their summer strategy. Compliance with PSR and squad cost regulations remains a key factor, meaning potential high value departures cannot be ruled out.
Transfer speculation has intensified due to Villa’s financial outlook. Ben Jacobs, in GIVEMESPORT’s newsletter, has addressed the rumours.
“Villa still may need a significant outgoing, even though they’re on course for Champions League football this season,” Jacobs writes.
“Chelsea and Liverpool are two of several Premier League clubs who hold a concrete interest in Morgan Rogers.
“Villa, should they get Champions League football, will certainly not be ruling out just keeping Morgan Rogers if the player wishes to stay and the finances allow, but don’t be surprised if Premier League clubs make a serious push for Morgan Rogers in summer 2026, despite the fact that he only signed a new contract extension last November.”
Those comments reflect the delicate balance Aston Villa must strike between sporting ambition and financial sustainability.
Liverpool have monitored Rogers previously, with his performances placing him on their radar before last year’s recruitment drive. At that time, the club prioritised alternative attacking reinforcements, but interest has not faded.
From a tactical perspective, Rogers could provide solutions across several attacking phases. Slot values fluid movement between lines, and the England international’s ability to link midfield and attack aligns with that philosophy.
Whether a deal materialises may depend on Aston Villa’s European qualification and Liverpool’s evolving squad needs. What appears certain is that Morgan Rogers will remain a prominent figure in transfer discussions as the summer window approaches.
