Liverpool’s record-breaking £450m spend last summer stole the headlines but has failed to live up to expectations.
One of those signings was the £40m arrival of Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth, who has had a fairly inconsistent debut season.
The 22-year-old is already under scrutiny, with Liverpool already reportedly eyeing left-back alternatives, with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown also mentioned. Andy Robertson’s expected departure also adds another layer to Arne Slot’s transfer plans.
According to reports today, another name on Liverpool’s shortlist is Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco…

According to Ekrem Konur, writing for Sports Boom, Liverpool could make their pursuit of Dimarco a ‘primary move’.
This wouldn’t be just as a back-up either, as Konur states: “Last summer, Liverpool splashed out on Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, but the signing has reportedly failed to impress the Reds’ hierarchy, with concerns mounting that the youngster lacks the physicality required to thrive at Anfield.”
In terms of Liverpool’s pursuit of Dimarco, a hefty price tag could be waiting.
“Any club looking to open negotiations would likely need to knock on Inter’s door with a minimum offer in the €75m-€80m range.”
It’s hard to see Liverpool spending that sort of money, just months on from splashing £40m on Kerkez. As much as the young Hungarian has struggled at times this season, it’s impossible to deny that he is really starting to settle in at Anfield.
I think it would be fair to give him another season to grow into his role in the squad. There’s no doubts over his immense potential.
At the age of 28, Dimarco sits way beyond Liverpool’s preferred age profile. However, the Italian is enjoying a world-class season for Inter.
The full-back currently sits on 15 assists in Serie A, which is just one behind the all-time record for the competition.
In the summer, Dimarco will have just 12 months remaining on his deal at Inter. However, according to Konur, both parties are ‘already at the table for a lifetime extension.’
The report also claims that Dimarco is receiving interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal. However, that €75m price tag will undoubtely put a lot of suitors off given the Italian’s current contract situation and age profile.
