Liverpool are facing a significant summer decision over Curtis Jones after Inter Milan reportedly submitted a €20m bid for the midfielder.
The 25 year old academy graduate has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield, placing his long term future under growing scrutiny. Jones has remained a valuable squad member under Arne Slot, but his role during the latest campaign has raised questions over where he fits in Liverpool’s evolving plans.
Jones made 18 Premier League starts this season, although several of those appearances came at right back rather than in his preferred central midfield position. That has contributed to uncertainty around his future, with the player understood to be considering whether he can secure the level of responsibility he wants at Liverpool.
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan have already held talks with Liverpool regarding a potential move for Curtis Jones and have tabled an offer worth €20m.
Liverpool, however, are said to value the midfielder at €30m, with the club also seeking a percentage of any future resale. That leaves a €10m gap between Inter Milan’s proposal and Liverpool’s current asking price.
The situation is delicate. Jones is homegrown, experienced, tactically flexible and still entering what should be the peak years of his career. For Liverpool, selling at the wrong price would carry obvious risk, particularly if the player goes on to thrive in Serie A.
At the same time, allowing a player with one year left on his contract to move closer to free agency could weaken Liverpool’s negotiating position later.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes met Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio in Monte Carlo to discuss the potential deal.
No agreement was reached during those talks, but the dialogue is understood to have been positive. Inter Milan’s interest appears firm, with the Serie A champions having also shown interest during the winter window.
For Jones, the attraction is clear. Inter Milan can offer Champions League football, a defined midfield structure and the chance to become a more regular central figure. For Liverpool, the decision will depend on valuation, squad planning and whether Slot sees Jones as essential to his next phase.
Liverpool must also consider their homegrown quota. After losing Trent Alexander Arnold and Jarell Quansah last summer, the departure of another academy developed player would require careful management.
Jones represents more than a squad number. He is a Liverpool player shaped by the club’s system, familiar with its demands and capable of covering multiple roles. That versatility has value, even if it has also contributed to frustration over his lack of a fixed midfield place.
Inter Milan appear patient, but their €20m bid has now forced Liverpool into a decision. Unless the Italian club improve their offer, the Anfield hierarchy must decide whether to hold firm at €30m or explore a compromise before the transfer window gathers pace.
Curtis Jones’ future is now one of the more intriguing Liverpool transfer stories of the summer.
