Manchester United are on course to sustain their 13th Premier League defeat of the season, which would mark their 10th loss in all competitions under Ruben Amorim.

The Reds entered the interval trailing 2-0, and Everton have since resumed their unrelenting pressure and attacking threat, with United mostly resigned to counterattacks, as things stand.

United will remain 15th-placed with a loss when the full-time whistle blows but could fall to 16th by the end of the weekend if West Ham overturn Arsenal in the 3pm kick-offs.

Yet, one Red has been singled out for his first-half showing, as he entered the changing rooms as the only United player to have left everything on the pitch and truly done his utmost to try and turn the tide in his side’s favour: Patrick Dorgu.

Why Dorgu’s top-drawer display bodes well for Amorim

It bodes in Amorim’s favour that the winter signing is currently the only member of the squad to have been specifically targeted to fit his newly implemented system, with Dorgu occupying the wing-back role in the three matches he’s featured in since his switch from Lecce.

“Patrick Dorgu is the only player to emerge with credit from this first half. He’s also the only player on the pitch who was signed for Ruben Amorim’s system. What are the chances?” said Manchester Evening News journalist Steven Railston on X/Twitter.

In his first 45 minutes at Goodison Park, Dorgu won 100 per cent of his tackles, four ground duels and four ball recoveries, as per StatmanDave. He also made 25 passes, four clearances and two crosses, making him the sole positive of an otherwise dismal afternoon for United thus far.
