Representatives of Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham have approached Real Madrid over a new contract to address the extensive wage disparity between the Englishman and some of his well-paid teammates, according to a report in Spain.

Bellingham signed a six-year deal when he joined Madrid in the summer of 2023 for an initial sum in the region of €103m (£88m). After a staggering debut campaign saw the Birmingham City academy graduate rack up 23 goals across all competitions while lifting La Liga and Champions League titles, Bellingham has continued to shine this term.

Despite operating in a deeper role to accommodate the summer arrival of Kylian Mbappe, Madrid's rampaging number five remains a potent force in the penalty box. The 21-year-old is the only member of the club's glittering squad to boast double digits for both goals and assists across all competitions this season.

However, Bellingham's salary is not entirely representative of his immense value to the squad, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet claims that Madrid's English gem earns between €8-10m (£6.7-8.3m) per year after tax. For comparison, Mbappe's signing-on bonus alone entitles him to around €8m each season. The Frenchman is thought to boast a baseline annual salary of roughly €15m (£12.5m) which is reportedly comparable to Vinicius Junior's average wage.

AS describes the inquiries into a new deal for Bellingham to be "common knowledge", although negotiations are far from a conclusion.

Madrid are currently preoccupied by a new deal for Vinicius. The Brazilian's existing agreement expires two years before Bellingham's contract and the forward himself revealed that talks are ongoing. The 24-year-old has reportedly rebuffed Madrid's first offer but has remained adamant that his long-term future will be in the Spanish capital.
