Julian Brandt has opened up about his decision to join Ajax Amsterdam after leaving Borussia Dortmund, revealing that the club's philosophy and the influence of Johan Cruijff played a major role in his choice.

The 30-year-old midfielder joined Ajax as a free agent after his contract with Dortmund expired, ending a seven-year spell at Signal Iduna Park. The former Germany international had attracted interest from several clubs but ultimately decided on a move to the Eredivisie giants.

For Brandt, Ajax's identity was one of the main reasons behind his decision.

"Ajax's DNA fits me. The way the club wants to play football and its philosophy were important factors for me."

The playmaker also highlighted the influence of Johan Cruijff, whose footballing ideas continue to shape Ajax's approach.

"Cruijff sparked something in me. His understanding of football and the way Ajax represents the game are things I can identify with."

Technical director Jordi Cruijff was reportedly a key figure in convincing Brandt to move to Amsterdam. Ajax had made contact with the midfielder's representatives after his departure from Dortmund, with the Dutch club seeing his experience and creativity as valuable additions to their squad.

Brandt leaves Dortmund after 307 competitive appearances for the club, having contributed 42 goals and 51 assists during his time in black and yellow. His departure marked the end of an era, with BVB deciding against extending his expiring contract.
