Julio Enciso is a doubt for the start of the World Cup after being stretchered off during Paraguay’s friendly win over Nicaragua.

The Strasbourg forward went down in the 25th minute, covering his face, and left on a stretcher. According to ABC, he faces three weeks out, which would likely rule him out of the first two group matches.

Enciso was hurt in the ribs and the pelvis during the 4-0 victory.

Head coach Gustavo Alfaro said the striker had suffered a double trauma, with pain radiating into the quadriceps. He added that the emotional factor, including the fear of missing the event, was also at play, and he hoped it would not be too serious.

His availability for the opening phase of the tournament remains uncertain.
