Inter Milan held a meeting on Tuesday morning with Udinese to discuss Newcastle United target Oumar Solet and it ‘lasted just under an hour’, with the Magpies now at increased risk of missing out on him.
The Frenchman enjoyed a very solid campaign in Serie A, making 35 appearances and playing a key role for the Italian outfit.
His performances gradually attracted attention beyond Italy, with Newcastle monitoring him in advance of a possible move and Udinese being prepared to sell.
Inter Milanhave also entered the race following developments surrounding another center-back target, Tarik Muharemovic, who has drawn enquiries from Tottenham Hotspur.
It has emerged that the Friulians are prepared to part ways with Solet this summer if the deal on the table is the right one.

The club’s sporting director also admitted that the Frenchman is a sought-after figure in the market and insisted interested clubs must make contact if they wish to discuss a deal.
The centre-back himself has responded to the transfer speculation, revealing it is pleasing to see his name linked with several clubs ahead of a potential move.
Now, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Inter are ‘pushing’ for Solet and a meeting took place with Udinese sporting director Gianluca Nani on Tuesday morning, which ‘lasted just under an hour’.
Although no official negotiations have yet begun, the Nerazzurri have ‘confirmed their interest’ in the Frenchman, indicating they could soon take concrete steps forward.

With Inter Milan now appearing to really step up their pursuit of Solet, Newcastle will have to decide how keen they are on the defender and whether they are prepared to make their own move.
Fabian Schar and Dan Burn are both into their 30s and Newcastle are expected to sign new central defenders.
Serie A champions Inter Milan are also admirers of another Udinese star in Arthur Atta, who is likewise on the shortlist of the Tyneside outfit.
Solet’s current contract is due to expire next year, but the Friulians hold an option to extend it by a further season and are expected to activate that clause before sanctioning any sale.
Whether the Frenchman continues his journey in Italy remains to be seen, but Inter are making moves in an effort to strengthen their position, something that could prove damaging to Newcastle’s hopes.
The Magpies have already suffered a setback in their pursuit of another centre-back target, Natan, who ‘only envisions’ a move to Barcelona if he leaves Real Betis.
